Fetal Presentation
When to Scan:
Third trimester pregnancy to assess for fetal position
Transabdominal Approach:
- Don't forget to change exam setting to OB
Where to put the probe:
• Start in transverse just cephalad to pubic symphysis
• Identify the bladder then move cephalad to uterus
• Locate presenting part and identify if it is a fetal head (circular, completely surrounded by bone)
• Then follow spine in longitudinal orientation to the top of the uterus
• Slide across the abdomen, then caudad to starting point to rule out second head
